Black Friday 2012 is going to be a real special Black Friday. Many analyst believe Black Friday 2012 sales will hit the $1 billion mark. Black Friday is a retailers dream due to the fact that consumers will spend money regardless of the status of our economy because either way people would want to save money during a recession or people would want to spend money because they have the extra money to do so. This year, the busiest shopping day of the year has generated double digit increases (in percentage) from sales to online traffic. Popular items that consumer were very interested in this year were HDTVs, tablets, and laptops (as expected, all electronics). According to Techcrunch, Black Friday 2011 has generated over $816 million in sales, which is a 26% increase from the previous year (2010) at $648 million. If this continues, we expect Black Friday 2012 to hit the $1 billion mark. Online traffic was also a big hit on Black Friday as Americans increase 35% compared to the previous year. Once again, Amazon.com had the most visitors on Black Friday followed by Walmart, Best Buy, Target and Apple.
I know we're still 300+ days until Black Friday 2012 but its never too early to predict what the HOT items are next year. If the trend continues, we expect to see electronics being a huge hit on Black Friday. We expect HDTVs again on Black Friday, could next year be the year of 3D TVs? or how about Apple TV (not the small box) an ACTUAL TV. We believe tablets next year will be a VERY close second place to TVs with the release of iPad 3 (or 2S), Asus Transformer Prime and Amazon Fire (with camera?). The sleeper? Video game console. Microsoft next year is rumored to release the XBOX 720 (Q4 - 2012?), we expect that to create a lot of attention next year even at a non-discounted price.
