5. 15.6" HP G60 Laptop for $299.98 at Staples

Staples will have an unnamed HP laptop for sale for $299.98 after a $250 instant savings and a $50 mail-in rebate.

This is most likely the HP G60 series, like this one listed at Staples' website right now, except with a cheaper processor and a smaller hard drive. Expect a machine like this to handle web browsing, document editing, organizing your photos and other basic home tasks. Recommendation: Try and get the better deal below from Walmart for the same laptop, but if all else fails this is a great alternative. Staples stores will carry at least 5 of these in stock in each store.

4. 15.6" HP G60-519WM for $298.00 at Walmart (Product Link)

Available at Walmart for $298, this laptop has an Intel Celeron 900 processor running at 2.2 GHz, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB 5400 RPM hard drive, and a LightScribe DVD burner, which allows you to laser-etch your CDs and DVDs with a customized image.

This is most likely the same laptop as the above laptop from Staples, but without a $50 rebate, and a larger hard drive (250GB vs 160GB), which puts this deal higher on our list. This is a great budget laptop. Celeron processors, however have only a single core, compared to it's dual core cousin, the Intel Pentium Mobile T4000 series (as listed in laptops below). However, for most day to day tasks a single core can do the brunt of the work. For more complex tasks or the more advanced user however, we recommend the T4000 series.

3. 15.5" Sony VGN-NW235F/W for $399.99 at Best Buy (Product Link)

The 15.5" Sony VGN-NW235F/W is a nicely spec'd laptop with a great price. Retail price is currently listed at $999.99 at Bestbuy.com right now, but it can be had for only $399.99 this Friday.

Overall, this Sony is a great all-around laptop to have around the house. It probably won't meet your needs if you're a hardcore gamer, but for the casual user looking to browse online, play music, watch videos, all with a very decent amount of power under the hood, this is a great deal. It's likely stores will have a very limited supply, so be get in line early!

This Toshiba Satellite Laptop boasts an Intel Pentium T4300, a dual core processor running at 2.1 GHz, 4 GB or RAM, 320 GB HDD, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

Very similarly spec'd as the Sony VAIO above, this Toshiba Satellite has a larger screen at 15.6", as well as a high-definition LED BrightView display. Keep in mind that the OfficeMax product page lists the T4300 processor as 2.0 GHz. This wrong because all T4300 are clocked at 2.1 GHz. It would have to be a T4200 if it ran at 2.0 GHz.However, we still recommend asking which processor it actually has when purchasing. We're assuming it is the T4300, and if it is, it would beat out the Sony VAIO laptop for the 2nd place spot due to it's slightly larger (and) LED screen.
